iPhones and iPad buttons have the tendency to stop working. Sometimes they click but don’t fire, and sometimes they won’t even click. The causes can vary widely. iPhone 5 series phones will have the power button stop working for no reason. A couple years ago there was even a recall (now expired) for that very reason. iDoctor is able to replace the button cable and resurrect your iPhone.

Other situations occur, on both iPhones and iPads, where the frame of the device gets bent and won’t let the button move. These situations call for a bit of work to bend the frame back to tolerable working specs. We see this most often when a device has a cracked screen after an impact along the frame near the buttons.

Temporary fixes exist for this problem. If you access your settings app, go to general, then to accessibility, you will see a function called assistive touch. Select that option. The assistive touch button will appear on screen and you can use this in lieu of whatever button is not functioning.

While some people may opt to use this for a long term solution, it is recommended to get the button fixed. If a situation arises where the phone needs to be hard reset, the only way to do that is with a working button.
